The Oxford members meeting was held on the 16th March 2012 at the Oxford Belfry Hotel. We decided that this would be our largest meeting to date and were delighted to be able to accommodate 80 people at this event.
The meeting began with an introduction and welcome from two of our Trustees, Chonette Taylor and Andrea Cockburn. They then introduced some of our newer Trustees before commencing the discussion groups.
All the members had a reminder of which discussion groups they had chosen prior to the meeting and the discussions began. We hope that this process helped members who were attending their first meeting to feel comfortable and find their way into the meeting.
After lunch Dr Anna Schuh from the Oxford Radcliffe Hospital gave an interesting presentation on current research and developments surrounding CLL. A link to her PowerPoint presentation can be found below and on the meetings page of the CLL Support Association Website. Many thanks to Dr Schuh for giving us her time and passing on her research knowledge to all of us. A PHD student, James Buchanan accompanied Dr Schuh and gave a short presentation on this work.
We then watched a presentation from Debra Wilson. Senior Learning and Development Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support. She spoke about Macmillan support and how people can access the Macmillan Learn Zone. You can find the Macmillan Learnzone here.
We were also pleased to welcome Lisa Mullins, a Macmillan involvement co-ordinator to the meeting. Her friendly demeanour and free booklets and information were much appreciated by the members attending.
We would like to say a big thank you to both Debra and Lisa for their time and assistance.
A link to Debras’ PowerPoint presentation can also be found below and on the meetings page of the CLL Support Association Website.
Ben Sykes, a community fundraiser from Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research also attended and our members were very pleased to be able to pick up some helpful and interesting booklets from him. Thanks to Ben and the team at Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
We learnt a lot from the meeting and are glad to say that we feel able to accommodate larger numbers of members to our meetings in future. We hope that all who attended found it a useful and helpful experience and look forward to seeing you all at future meetings.
