Some
national papers carried headlines in the last week such as
‘Leukaemia hope after gene find’ (Daily Mail ). The articles were in
fact about some research on CLL published by researchers at Ohio
State University. The researchers found that those who inherit a
defective form of the gene DAPK1 are more likely to develop CLL.
They made this discovery by studying a family where the father, four
sons, a grandson and a female relative all had CLL. It is hoped that
this discovery will help develop a screening test for CLL and also
help in developing better ways to treat the disease.
One of
our Medical Advisors, Professor Terry Hamblin, has written about
this research on his blog at:- http://mutated-unmuated.blogspot.com/
The
research results are still being analyzed and we hope to be able to
publish more on this work at a later date.
